How long is each coaching session?
This depends on your preferences and learning style! It is recommended (but not required) to commit to 60 minutes each week directly addressing your goals in session. Sessions are booked in 15-minute increments; some choose to have one 60-minute session per week while others choose to do two 30-minute sessions or a 45-minute session with a 15-minute follow up later in the week. Regardless of what you choose, you will also have access to email support between sessions.
How many coaching sessions should I do?
This depends on you and your goals. There are no contracts that lock you into a set amount of sessions, so approximately every month or so we will take a step back to reflect on your progress. For lasting results I suggest doing at least two months of coaching so that habits have time to form and you have plenty of supported practice. Working collaboratively, together we can keep close tabs on when it may be time to “fly solo”. As you make progress, we may also decide to do less frequent sessions or switch to a less intensive check-in model.
Who benefits from coaching?
The short answer is everyone! However, clients that are most successful are ready to make some changes and feel motivated to put in some work outside of scheduled appointments.
Why OT for coaching?
Per the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), OTs “promote health, well-being, and your ability to participate in the important activities in your life" [AOTA.org, 2023]. OTs are uniquely trained to perform task analyses on these activities, determine any barriers a person may face, and creatively problem solve how the person can optimize their function in everyday life. While many consider OT in the context of tradition physical rehabilitation, OT practitioners are also formally trained in the areas of neuroscience, cognition, and mental health.
Do you offer academic tutoring?
Function Flourish OT does not offer content- or course- specific tutoring. That being said, executive function coaching can help students learn how to more efficiently learn. Skills such as note-taking, studying, project organization, homework initiation, and successfully meeting deadlines are targeted as they are skills that are generalizable and help students succeed in a variety of courses.
Are services covered by insurance?
Function Flourish OT is only able to accept private pay as coaching services are not reimbursed by insurance companies.
